星光蓝宝石也称星彩蓝宝石，多数是不透明至半透明。星光蓝宝石因其艳丽的星光色彩而被称为“命运之石”，能保佑佩戴者平安，并让人交好运。星光蓝宝石的三束星光分别代表忠诚、希望与博爱。它也是结婚65周年的纪念宝石。
目前世界上最大的星光蓝宝石是重1404.49克拉的“亚当之星”(Star of Adam)，发现于斯里兰卡。宝石的背面也呈现着几乎同样的星光。目前已知最大的星光红宝石是重3553克拉的Raviratna Star Ruby，传承自古印度南部的王朝家族，可能产自缅甸。
现在顶级的星光红宝石和星光蓝宝石主要来自缅甸和斯里兰卡矿区，CEYLON STAR所选用的星光宝石来自于此。
